Recap: Big Boi Fills SOBs w/ Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors

Nostaliga was in the air last night on Varick Street, where one of our favorite ATLiens held a show for the release of his new album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous RumorsBig Boi warmed up the audience with some OutKast trinkets, performing cuts like “Rosa Parks,” “So Fresh and So Clean,” “Ms. Jackson,” and “Aquemini” with his live band.

Big Boi enticed us with some tracks off the album as well, such as the Kelly Rowland featured “Mama Told Me,” and “Lies,” where A$AP Rocky came out to perform alongside him. What kind of NYC show is it if someone from the A$AP Mob doesn’t show out?

The crowd was a healthy mix of fans, tastemakers and Def Jam Jam execs who came out to listen and celebrate the new release. Surprisingly though, it wasn’t the typical industry party I expected it to be. I was so fixated on the performance that entertaining small talk was the furthest from my mind. I can count on one hand the number of shows I attended this year where I felt like a fan in the crowd and actually enjoyed myself. Kudos to Big Boi for making us feel like fans again, and getting us to look forward to purchasing his album…two things that are hard to accomplish these days.
